Why I Made Mathrix – A Merge Puzzle with Real Math
This is my first devlog for Mathrix, and I wanted to share the story behind the game — where the idea came from, why I chose math, and what makes this puzzle game different.
The idea for Mathrix first came to me after watching Alan Becker’s "Animation vs. Math" video. I was fascinated by how numbers and math could be visualized as living, moving elements — almost like they had personalities and powers.
That video didn’t just show math; it made it fun, interactive, and visual — and something about that stuck in my head.
I’ve always liked math — especially how it rewards logic, patience, and clever thinking. But most mobile games either oversimplify it or turn it into something boring.
So I asked myself:
What if I made a game where math is part of the environment, not just the score?
That’s how Mathrix was born — a game where you merge and manipulate number blocks in a glowing, minimal world. Every move is math-powered, but it feels smooth, fast, and puzzle-like — not like a test.
Right now, only the demo is live on itch.io. I’m building the game solo, and I’m still experimenting with level design, polish, and mechanics.
If you try it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Any kind of feedback helps — gameplay balance, UI issues, or even just telling me which level you liked most.
Want to Support Development?
The game is free to play, and I’ve kept it ad-free and offline-friendly.
But if you enjoy the demo and want to help me improve the game, please consider leaving a donation on the itch.io page. Even small support makes a big difference for indie developers like me. 💚 I will try my best to keep updating the game THX <3
